It's time to celebrate, people. Former senator and present crybaby
Norm Coleman (R-MN) finally conceded the
2008 Minnesota Senate Race to the actual winner, Senator-elect
Al Franken (D-MN). After multiple courts had already told Coleman that Franken had, indeed, won the race by the narrowest of margins, the
Minnesota Supreme Court today ruled unanimously for Franken, forcing Coleman to concede. Franken won by 312 votes, which was 0.011% of all ballots cast. Coleman had originally won the first counting of ballots by 215 votes, but a under state law, a recount was mandatory due to the resulting margin being less than 0.5% of ballots cast. The recount resulted in a swing of 527 votes for Franken, giving him the win over Coleman,
Independence Party candidate and former Senator
Dean Barkley (I-MN), who won about 15% of the vote, and two other candidates from the
Libertarian Party and the
Constitution Party, who together garnered less than 1% of the vote.
